Ulric Hans Fredrik Carl Von Der Esch was born in Stockholm on May 17th 1977 but trained as an actor in the United States, studying for three years at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York before moving to Los Angeles and the Vincent Chase Workshop for another two years. He started his stage career in America in plays including 'The Common Pursuit' and 'The Madwoman of Chaillot' before returning to Stockholm in 2006. On the Swedish stage he has performed in the rock musical 'Life of Bellman' and toured with its National Theatre in the farce 'Boeing Boeing'. He made his television debut in 2006 and came to prominence in serial dramas 'August' and '183 Days' making his British television debut in 2016 as Sven, the accordion-playing Corfu-based farmer who comes to the aid of 'The Durrells.'
